With a budget of around €4 billion for the first ten years, the European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy (‘Fusion for Energy’) will play a key role in realising fusion as a possible future source of energy by providing the European contributions to the TER International fusion energy project, the Broader Approach Agreement with Japan as well as to prepare for demonstration fusion reactors.
About the role:
Directly reporting to the Head of the ITER Department, the Head of Site, Buildings and Power Supplies will play a major role in providing the European in‐kind contributions to ITER for the work breakdown structures related to the ITER site preparations, ITER buildings and power supplies.

In order to be eligible the candidate must: be a citizen of one of the Member States of the European Union or of a Third state fully associated with the Euratom fusion proramme (

A contract offer will be made as a member of temporary staff, pursuant to Article 2(a) of the Conditions of Employment of other servants of the European Communities. The successful candidate will be recruited in the grade AD12 on a contract with an initial duration of five years, with possibility of renewal. The salaries of temporary agents are subject to a community tax deducted at source. They are exempt from national tax. The European institutions have their own social security and pension scheme.

The Joint Undertaking “Fusion for Energy” provides the European contributions to the international ITER project as well as to the Broader Approach activities undertaken bilaterally by Japan and Euratom.
About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Site, Buildings and Power Supplies, the Civil Engineer(s) will have the duty to implement and follow‐up all the contracts necessary for the construction of the ITER building and ITER site preparation, according to the general specifications received from the ITER International Organisation.
About you:
In order to be eligible the candidate must be a citizen of one of the Member States of the European Union or of a third state fully associated with the Euratom fusion programme (e.g. Switzerland). He/She enjoys his/her full rights as a citizen and has fulfilled the obligations imposed on him/her by the law of their home country concerning military service. He/She meets the character requirements for the duties involved and is physically fit to perform his/her duties. Essential is a university degree in engineering or equivalent, experience in the preparation and supervision of civil engineering project involving large procurements, work experience in a drawing office and the use of advanced CAD Systems, technical and project management skills and experience adequately covering one or more of the following areas: structural civil engineering and analysis, site preparation and earthworks, civil engineering and building systems integration, architectural and civil works costing quantity surveying and scheduling, supervision of building construction on site including / quality control and schedule control, heating and ventilation systems / fire protection, general assembly section transports and logistics, technical specifications preparation and supplier offer evaluation.
