ITER information sessions on Toroidal Field (TF) fabrication coils

27 June 2007 | 17:52 | Euratom, ITER

According to the procurement allocations agreed by the ITER Parties the delivery of the TF coils is planned as follows:

Toroidal Field Magnet Conductors: EU 20% share
Toroidal Field Magnet Windings including final assembly of TF coil casing: EU 10 pieces

In order to inform the interested industries on technical and administrative aspects related to the TF procurement, meetings (information sessions) can be organised by EFDA in agreement with ITER and the other Parties. To evaluate the need for such meetings potential suppliers are invited to submit their interest before July, 9th, 2007 providing:

  • Name and address of the firm,
  • Name, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of a contact person;

Information to be submitted to:

ITER Information for Swiss Industry re-launched

18 June 2007 | 0:00 | Site info

As the past realisation of the internet based platform was not able to generate much interest within the Swiss stakeholders, it was decided to propose a new approach with a straight forward approach. The new look and feel is based on an intuitive navigation, new design and a self imposed restriction of presenting only the most relevant information.

The main goal of this homepage however remains the same: to create, to support and to foster the interest in fusion related technology in order to promote Switzerland’s technological savoir faire and participation in the world spanning ITER project.

The users will decide about the success or the failure of this site. Visiting it regularly, commenting the presented information, providing feedback about requests or needs of potential users will provide the bases for a continued effort in this information platform.

Partner search

10 June 2007 | 12:01 | partner search

The project ITER requires multiple expertise in various fields. In order to get only the most performing components and systems in each field, the most competent partners have to be identified. This partner search has been enabled since the 80 when JET was build. Today, it is going on and there are nodes on the national as well as European level which can support you finding your partners – even if you never thought about Fusion as a business opportunity (example: remote handling etc.).

Contact us if you are interested in high-end technology development and innovation.

Industrial database

10 June 2007 | 12:00 | industry database

In March 2006 the EFDA has launched an Industry database for ITER. This database is used to survey the availability and interest of companies in the EU for the participation in the ITER project. The database allows companies to enter their coordinates as well as their competences/activities. It will be the bases of the European contribution to ITER. It is therefore strongly suggested to file an entry in order to get visibility and allow others to initiate a partner search vie this tool.

The database can be found on the EFDA-website under www.efda.org/eidi/.

Broader Approach

10 June 2007 | 11:51 | Broader Approach

The Broader Approach is a bilateral cooperation agreement between Euratom (including Switzerland) and Japan. With a time frame parallel to the ITER construction phase (about 10 years’ duration), it is meant to speed up the development of fusion energy as it deals with important subjects in relation with ITER and DEMO. As for the projects implemented within the framework of the Broader Approach, EURATOM and Japan stipulated candidate projects in the document “The roles of the Host and the non-Host for the ITER Project” on 5th May 2005, and finally shared the common understanding that the projects selected by non-Host which did not host ITER, either Euratom or Japan, would be carried out in the territory of non-Host. The above document was adopted as the attached document of the joint declaration on the occasion of the six-party ministerial meeting for ITER on 28th June, 2005.
